There's a lot of Talk about Life and Death These Days ...
So here's the part where I say that I was raised on a small, working farm back East. We had some cattle and meat rabbits. Everything on the farm served a purpose and if ranks were broken that purpose changed. Also, being a working farm, I learned early on about life, death and the circle of. Maybe that hardened me a bit. Maybe it made me more realistic when I make hard choices but hard choices do I make constantly in my life. I, however, do not find that the case with most of society. So today I want to talk about values.
If you have read anything of mine you know that I like facts, not models. Models, while based in some facts are not the truth. They are a projection that may or may not be accurate. And right now all we're living with are models and it has society just whipped into a herd frenzy. When I say that, now as of today, almost 30 Million people are out of work; and you can read that as soon to be out of money; out of food; out of health care and meds; out of any decent way of life. Yes, there's big stress consequences as a result of having your entire life ripped out from under you instantly. And yet, as a society, we are overly concerned with the around 48,000 actual deaths to date. Which, as a number compared to 30 Million is nothing.
But we don't care about how hard anyone's life is. We don't care about suffering. We only are afraid of Death itself. We, whether it's just looking like we care or we really do have that core value of life over anything, would rather suffer than die in this society.
Now, I see so many problems with this 'model' if you will. People dying will happen. It probably has happened in most all our lives; that we have had someone we know and/or love die. Our life is not unlimited for our species. Circle of life people.
Case in point, our prison system. We have proven offenders that we, as society, would rather support than end their lives even though ... and let me emphasize this, EVEN THOUGH none of us would allow them to live in our neighborhoods; none of us give them a chance to come back into society; NONE OF US WANTS THEM NEAR US. But yet, we fund them. I suppose the thought is that life is so important that we cannot end it; so we leave them in a financial limbo making ourselves feel better but tossing their care to others. Not us ... because we don't want them near us or our families.
This is a disfunction in our thinking.
Farm Life. Let's go back to Farm Life. Everything works; everything has a purpose. So let's say the rooster who's now acting up, has stepped out of his role as chicken maker and could possibly pose a real threat to the humans that live on this farm. His behavior is evaluated; his value as a rooster is judged and when the price of his behavior is too high, he becomes dinner. Circle of Life.
Now we jump to today; our country needs a big overhaul. I might go as far as to say the world needs a big overhaul. Religion has done no one any favors in this country to prepare us and guide us for Death. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that religion has morphed into Big Business and left it's core purpose behind. And I look at other counties that embrace Death and, while grieve, accept that it is the end game for all of us.
So it is my hope that as a society we get some brave souls who step forward; turn the tide of public opinion with actual proven values (not moral ideals) and when we, as a society, exceed our value; that we're evaluated and then dealt with accordingly. And it is my hope that the World Religions take a hard look at their behavior and teaching and bring their values up to date. I'll disclose that I follow a Pagan path; so I am firmly grounded in the reality of God; The Fates and the Natural World. Choices are hard; life constantly evolves and we need to evolve with it.
Thanks for visiting and throwing in for my thoughts. Mentally this does make me feel a little better. I sincerely hope there are others out there that think a little like I do.
