What is Your Risk Tolerance?
So a couple years ago I got really lucky, in that, I was accepted by a super good money manager into the Morgan Stanley family. I came in with what little monies I had scraped together over the years, so I feel very lucky because I've found out that mostly only the wealthy get this privilege.
And I say lucky, even after all my earnings just got washed away with the recent 'event'. Initially my guy, James, sat me down and evaluated my Risk Tolerance. And this is super important right now for many reasons but mostly because it is something I've thought a lot about even since I was young but apparently most of society doesn't think about this at all.
Case in point, it seems that facets of our society as of today, are clambering for us to return to work; now. And that would be fine EXCEPT we can't. We have made drastic decisions and now need to see them thru. But the bigger question is, where were these people when the entire freakin' world shut down? Seems their Risk Tolerance was fine a week ago but now, not so much?
Whenever I meet someone new, I am always happy when I can learn something new from them or find a different way to think. In the case of James, that ability to think and adjust my own Risk Level turns out to be really important.
Along with that; I have strong Russian and German roots. As a child I heard the stories of people having to stand in line and being grateful for getting a loaf of bread or flour to bake with. I say this while getting ready to use my last bit of flour to make an apple pie, because we need a little sweetness in life right now at home. But after that; I may not get flour for a while and I am resigned to this. I have heard and seen this before. And I believe strongly that this will pass and as a result I hope that our society is better for having gone thru it.
