Continuing on the Theme of Self ...
So maybe it's the new car syndrome; you know, you buy BrandX and then you see BrandX all over the place. It's like that. I finally gather the courage to take care of me and just like that I am seeing posts all over about people (mostly women) doing the same thing. It's really amazing and refreshing.
I don't feel it's selfish; more that if we don't take care of ourselves, then who will? Who actually cares enough? I do not have family; I have a great husband that I don't feel I want to burden all the time with my emotional baggage. I don't have the budget for paid therapy where someone would have to listen to me and may or may not help my situation. And I have a few very close friends and BFF's but again, they don't need to listen to my woes, as I'm sure they have their own and I don't necessarily want to listen to theirs in bulk ... so there you have it.
We need to take care of ourselves first. And if we are well adjusted and as happy as can be in today's world, then I think that's enough. But you do have to be brave if you were brought up to shove yourself aside for all else.
Thus, I offer a couple things from Instagram today (which I still love despite FB's ownership) and quotes that I've always loved. Enjoy! And take care of yourselves first. :)

"We are taught from a young age to betray ourselves.
Taught that our needs don't matter.
Taught to hide ourselves behind pleasantries.
Taught that we will belong, be loved, and be valued if we appear in ways that make others comfortable.
But every compromise we make in life takes its toll.
Our mental, emotional, and spiritual health is cumulative.
Invest in it first and always.
Put it off for no one and no thing.

"Ask yourself: Where am I?
Answer: Here.
Ask yourself: What time is it?
Answer: Now.
Say it until you can hear it."
