Keeping The Faith; A Lesson in Believing

It was Friday, June 21st in 2019 when a Blogger; Home Haunter; Prop Celeb went dark. He posted on his blog as usual and then nothing ... emptiness and silence. His name was PumpkinRot.

Now, PumpkinRot is not just any guy; he's got a following. He has this wonderful persona that makes you not only like him; but you cannot wait to see either what he's created or what he's found to share in the magical world of all things Halloween Haunt. His wife, Bean, does the most wonderful photography. She's film (perhaps digital) but also old school polaroid which lends itself to so much vision. She's also a creator of small JackO's, some of which I proudly cherish in my own personal collection. So really; a nice couple. Perhaps a nice family. We do not know because Rot keeps his life very close to the coveralls (he's a Michael Myers type of guy). So we get the feel of his life and who he is from his web offerings.

When he just blinked out of existence there was a TON of chatter on the web about why; what could have happened; where is he; how is Bean; did something horrible really happen; did he just get tired of it all; no one knew. So I kept the web link in my reading list. I checked it often. I read the chat threads and the rumors. And then, finally giving up to the idea that he was gone from our lives, I deleted the link.

I do follow a hashtag on Instagram called #pumpkinrot in hopes that he'd surface. Of course there are a lot of rotten and rotting pumpkin photos (which are pretty much cool). And people posting old stuff of his. There was even one guy that I suspected of being Rot but then I thought better of it and dismissed it.

But by chance there was a random post that Rot had returned to his blog. Upon further inspection, the news was true and on November 1st, 2021 he returned. It was, to say the least, the best Treat of Tricks or Treats ever.

I never took Rot for granted. And I'm grateful that he's back and posting. But it makes me wonder about whether I should have kept the link longer? And how long is long enough to wait; to believe; to hope? So many things to think about but for now I will just enjoy the man and what he contributes to the magical world of Home Haunting! It's so nice to have you back Rot.

Remain Hungry my friends and enjoy Thanksgiving!
