An American Fairytale: by Me
Once upon a time, in a land far across the oceans, there lived several wealthy businessmen who did not want to share their money with their foreign government. So they staged a revolution and won control over their new country and the right to keep their own wealth.
Being businessmen, they eventually lost their morals and traded in human lives (slaves). This went on for sometime, and all the while these men pretended to watch over the average laboring population; they pretended to care and said as much but little was shown in actions.
The laboring population, being grateful for their lives and perhaps a bit simple minded, never even suspected that these men on high cared very little for them; only their labor interested the men in power.
But one day another group of businessmen thought it was wrong to enslave people so they fought to free this select class of people. And freedom happened but not like you'd expect.
The original group of wealthy businessmen were so angry that they had lost control of their free laborers that they penalized them in all ways possible in society. They were kept poor and offered little in friendships of any kind.
This went on for a long time, and all the while these men in high places continued to act as if they had consideration and care for the laboring public but all the while they connived ways to amass their wealth.
Land also interested them and so they went in search of the best lands; while running off the few they could and killing as many of the native people who lived on those lands. They must have felt a tiny bit bad at their carnage, because they did round them up; instructing them to live on barren and hostile land but with the bargain of a promise of health care. The native peoples, having no choice in the matter, gave up their land and now have one of the poorest health care systems in America.
So time went on and the rich just got richer; by fair and unfair gain.
And as time went on and the poor just stayed the same; got poorer, or just gave up completely.
And so it came to pass that a few enlightened people saw the sham that was being perpetrated on most of the people of the land. Being distracted by fun; and perhaps being a little simple minded, the people just played and suffered and lived as best they could while the men in high places just laughed and laughed at the entire scene.
Very few lived happily ever after.
The end.
